Brief Course Overview
Attending this programme will enhance the participant’s ability to manage their lives more effectively, and in so doing, have more time to focus executing their priorities. The focus is also on assisting the participants to manage their time and as a result increase their personal effectiveness. Participants will be helped to identify how they spend their time. How they plan their work and how they prioritise.

- Assess potential constraints on their ability to manage time (Identify Time Wasters).
- Apply the Pareto Time Principle.
- Categorise their tasks.
- Apply the 5-D Time Management Model.
- Prioritise their tasks.
- Use planning tools to organise their time.
- Set priorities and deadlines realistically.
- Apply Lakein’s Six Steps to plan and organise their time.
- Realise their need to be more focused and disciplined in order to manage their lives more effectively.
- Have a definite plan to achieve their goals in the quickest possible time.
- Be taught the skills required to use Time Management tools more effectively.
- Apply personal leadership principles to managing their time.
Brief Course Outline:
Day 1
Introduction and Welcome
Module 1: Self Analysis
Participants will complete an exercise which will enable them to take stock of their personal strengths and weaknesses, character traits, values, interests and abilities. This exercise will help them to examine their personal characteristics and to use these as framework for self assessment.
Module 2: Getting Organised
In this module participants will understand the Vision, Mission, Strategies and Goals of their job and indentify its key result areas. They will identify where they are wasting time and how it might be having a destructive impact on their ability to achieve their goals.
Module 3: Setting priorities
Participant will be taught how to set priorities by using the Pareto Time Principle, named after Vilfredo Pareto, a nineteenth-century Italian economist and sociologist; this will assist participants to set priorities for effective execution and results.

Module 4: Categorising your tasks
In this module participant will be shown how to recognise and differentiate between those tasks that will contribute directly to their purpose versus those seductive tasks that clammer for attention, but contribute very little to the overall purpose. They will also be taught how to use the time management models to decide on what kind of action to take on certain tasks.

Module 5: Practical Application
By combining the principles and time management tool participants will have an opportunity to get practical and apply these to samples of their daily and monthly activity.
Module 6: Applying Personal Leadership to Manage Time
Setting boundaries
The setting of personal boundaries is essential to enable one to manage time more effectively. Participants will be taught how to say “NO” in a manner that does not offend.
Setting personal and work related goals
Participants will select a few personal and work related goals as part of an exercise to enable them to achieve these goals in a reasonable time frame.

Effective planning
There is no ‘quick-fix’ to changing behaviour, attitude and habits. Cultivating careful planning and process thinking habits are part of the process of achieving goals. Participants will learn how to achieve their goals using these new processes.
Self Motivation
Participants will learn how to be motivated to ‘manage’ their time more effectively. It’s about Attitude, Commitment and positive thinking and self-talk.
Module 7: Action Plans
Individual Action Plans by participants will be created to facilitate the practice of the acquired skills and the behavioural changes required.

- At least two flipchart boards.
